Since taking over as Boys Varsity Tennis coach in 2024, Coach Mark Washburn has brought stability, purpose, and a renewed sense of mission to the NorthPointe Christian tennis program. Following a series of short-term head coaches, he has been instrumental in reshaping the program’s culture and aligning it with the mission of NPC Athletics: equipping students to impact their world for Jesus Christ through athletics. Coach Washburn exemplifies our MUSTANG value of Mission Focused. For him, tennis is about far more than what happens on the court. At every home match, he takes the opportunity during pre-match introductions to share the Gospel with opposing teams. The program’s annual Senior Night concludes with coaches, teammates, and parents laying hands on one another and praying over the seniors, reminding these young men that their identity and purpose extend far beyond the game. Even between matches, Coach Washburn intentionally builds relationships with opposing coaches, learning about their lives, and discovering how he can pray for and encourage them. We are incredibly grateful for Coach Washburn’s commitment to discipleship and evangelism through tennis. His impact extends well beyond the court as he develops young men in their faith, character, and athletic ability. That commitment to excellence is producing results on the court, too! The Mustangs finished as regional runners-up last weekend and will compete at the MHSAA State Finals October 21–22 in Midland for the second consecutive year. Coach Washburn often says, “It’s a great day to be a Mustang!” Through his leadership, those words mean more than school spirit—they reflect the opportunity to grow in faith, invest in others, and use our gifts for God’s glory. Thank you, Coach Washburn, for showing everyone what it truly means to be a Mustang! --Drew Losee, Director of Athletics
