FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NorthPointe Christian Athletics Unveils Alternate Identity: “The Grand Rapids Baptists” Grand Rapids, MI — NorthPointe Christian Athletics is excited to announce a special alternate identity for the remainder of the spring sports season: The Grand Rapids Baptists, or simply, “The Baptists.” In a move inspired by Minor League Baseball—where teams often adopt fun alternate identities like the West Michigan Whitecaps becoming the “Michigan Snowbirds”—NorthPointe is joining in the tradition with its own throwback twist. Equal parts tribute and celebration, this alternate identity honors NorthPointe’s roots as Grand Rapids Baptist Academy, founded in 1972. While NorthPointe Christian Schools now serve a primarily non-denominational community representing over 120 churches across the greater Grand Rapids area, this throwback identity is a nod to the school’s rich history and the generations of alumni who remember the early days of GRBS. Beginning immediately, NorthPointe Christian teams will take the field, court, and track under the name “The Baptists” for all remaining spring competitions—bringing a sense of nostalgia, school pride, and fun to the season. “This is a way to celebrate where we’ve come from while continuing to build on who we are today,” said Drew Losee, NPC Athletics Director. “We thought it would be a fun and meaningful tribute for our alumni and community, while also giving our current students a chance to connect with our school’s history.” Fans can expect themed game nights, special acknowledgments of alumni, and a renewed sense of connection across generations of NorthPointe students and supporters. Whether you remember the GRBS days firsthand or are experiencing NorthPointe for the first time, we invite you to join us this spring as we celebrate the legacy, community, and spirit of The Baptists.
