The Middle School Mustangs rolled to the finals of the league tournament on Saturday.  Here’s the recap of the games:

Saturday May 5th (9:00 am) Game #1 vs Northview

Won 11 – 2

Hitting Stars:

  • 8th grader BJ Bufton went 2 for 2 with 2 singles, a walk, 3 RBI’s, 2 runs scored and a stolen base
  • 7th grader Ben Kole went 2 for 2 with 2 singles, a walk, and 2 runs scored

Pitching Star:

  • 8th grader Ethan Visser tossed 6 solid innings allowing 1 earned run, while striking out 8 hitters

Semi-Finals vs EGR (Lt. Blue)

Won 7 – 2

Hitting Stars:

  • 8th grader BJ Bufton went 2 for 3 with 2 singles, 1 RBI, 1 run scored and 1 stolen base
  • 8th grader Matt Kintz went 3 for 3 with 1 RBI, 1 runs scored, and 1 stolen base

Pitching Star:

  • 8th grader Jarrett Berends tossed 6 innings allowing 0 earned runs, while striking out 5 hitters

CHAMPIONSHIP GAME vs EGR

Lost 8 – 7

Hitting Stars:

  • 8th grader BJ Bufton went 3 for 3 with 2 singles, 1 triple, 1 RBI, and 2 runs scored
  • 7th grader Ben DeHann went 2 for 3 with 2 triples, 2 RBI’s, and 1 run scored

Pitching Stars:

  • 8th grader Matt Kintz tossed 3 innings, allowing 0 earned runs while striking out 4 hitters

The Mustangs rallied in the top of the last inning, scoring 5 runs in their final at bat to take a 7-6 lead; however, the team from EGR rallied themselves scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the last inning to edge out the Mustangs for an 8 – 7 championship win.  The Mustangs never gave up and hung in there right until the very end.  It was a very successful day that resulted in a 2nd place finish in the tournament.
