They were hearty souls that came out to support their teams for Saturday’s match vs. Grand River Prep which was played in dry but very chilly conditions at Mustang Field. Northpointe Christian’s ladies came in riding a two match win streak and looked to keep it running by building on a good run of form. Strong commitment to possession and to making chances for shots resulted in the solid win against a very game opponent.
The first half started with a very high tempo which saw Northpointe Christian open its scoring account in the seventh minute when Hanna Silvey found Michelle Streekstra who continued her shooting form from the previous match. Katie DeLong kept the pressure on by doubling the lead in the seventeenth minute (from Hanna Silvey), and then tripling it in the twenty-fifth (this time from Michelle Streekstra). With the midfield working well at regaining possession and the defense collecting anything that got past, keeper Kelly VanderZiel had few worries and no serious threats to defend. NPC went into half with the 3-0 lead and did not let-up at all in the second half, although Grand River Prep did adjust and threaten a bit more. Bri Winkel scored after a nice run started by a slick Hope Kole pass. Bri scored again a little more than a minute later, this time from a Hanna Silvey assist, and again a short bit later to complete her hat-trick, again set up by a Hanna Silvey pass. With that, the Northpointe Christian ladies kept the pressure high and the clock expired giving them the well-earned 6-0 win.
The energy today was absolutely fantastic, and the NPC ladies are really showing solid improvement after each match. Confidence, particularly in our finishing, is on the rise. This is a good trend as we enter into the second half of the season!
