On Thursday April 12th, the NorthPointe Middle School baseball team faced off against rival Freedom Christian. Starting pitcher BJ Bufton was warm right from the start of the game striking out 12 batters for the game while only walking two. Jarrett Berends opened the Mustang scoring with a solo home run. The Mustangs bats and keen eyes really started to heat up in the bottom of the 2nd inning as they went a combined 4 for 7, with 4 walks in the inning, which resulted in a total of eight runs being scored. 7th grader Trent Wisz collected his first career hit in the inning, as he had a two run single and 8th grader BJ Bufton capped the scoring in the 2nd inning with a three run homer.
The Mustangs added an additional run in the 4th inning to take a commanding 11 – 0. Freedom Christian scored 3 runs in the top of the 5th inning. In the bottom of the 5th inning the Mustangs added another three runs to regain an 11 run lead with a score of 14 – 3. Ethan Visser then went on to strikeout another three batters in the top of the 5th inning, before ending the game himself in the bottom of the 5th inning by hitting a three run homer to center field, resulting in a final score of 17 – 3.
Starting pitcher BJ Bufton threw four innings and struck out 12 batters, while walking only two. BJ was just as hot at the plate as he went 3 for 3 with 3 RBI’s, 3 runs and 3 stolen bases, while fellow 8th grader Jarrett Berends went 2 for 2 with 3 RBI’s, 3 runs scored and a walk. It was also a big game for 7th grader Trent Wisz, who playing in only his 3rd career baseball game went 2 for 2 with 2 RBI’s and 2 runs scored.
After the game ended, 7th grader Peter Hilts lead the team in a great prayer in which her “thanked” the Lord for keeping each of them safe and for also allowing each of the them the opportunity to play the game of baseball in a way that brings the Lord the honor and glory.
